HEAT/AC CONTROLS

Of all the systems in a Lincoln, this has to be one of the areas that is most often misdiagnosed. I cannot stress enough the importance of proper troubleshooting (see the books in the Lincoln Library). Many mechanics try the "shotgun" approach. Replace one of everything and the problem will be solved. True enough, but very often you are replacing perfectly good parts and the only one who benefits is the guy selling the parts (Hey, that's me - when will I learn to keep my mouth shut?!) To help get you started on the right foot: most problems are the result of bad or loose vacuum lines, check this first. Remember that one bad vacuum hose can decrease the amount of available vacuum for the entire system. Beyond this, a little time spent in the manuals will pay off with a better understanding of the system and a more focused approach to problem solving.
