KEEP THAT MOTOR RUNNING

I am sorry to say that I heard of two more Lincoln engines dying prematurely this past year due to tired timing chain and gear sets. I am also happy to know many more of you who have saved your engines prior to the big bang. Over the past several years I have been warning Lincoln owners of potential problems with the nylon tooth cam gear. In short, the problem is not that the chain and gears wear out (though you will often find this to be true). The problem is what happens with the shards of nylon that break off of the original cam gear. These pieces find their way into the oil pan, get sucked into the oil pump pickup screen and starve the engine for oil, or jam the pump and shear the oil pump driveshaft. Either way, you're in trouble quickly. Do not be lulled into a false sense of security with a low mileage car, the original cam gear becomes brittle with age, not mileage.

STARTING ON THE RIGHT FOOT

Wow, I must have struck a nerve on the starter subject last year. After warning you about all the "cheap" starters that don't do the job or fail after a short period of time, I am having fun trying to keep my "super" starter in stock. Seems that "you don't always get what you pay for but you always pay for what you get" is very applicable in this circumstance. Remember that these starters are literally built brand new, re-using only the original cases. It's not the least expensive starter you will find, but I guarantee it will do the job where others fail - starting a hot engine, for instance.

FAILED TRANSMISSION

Be careful when having transmission work performed on your 61-65 Lincoln transmission. This is neither a C4 nor a C6 transmission, but rather a unit unique to this application. It is known as the heavy duty, cast iron case, turbo drive transmission with a tag number that starts PCA. I often hear from transmission shops that have committed to rebuilding this transmission, even given a quote, before they realized that they are dealing with something they had not seen before. Don't despair. I have saved hundreds of these for all of the "hard" parts that are becoming impossible to find. Obviously we also carry the "soft" parts that wear out like gaskets, seals, O rings, clutches, bands, etc. Aw heck, just read the list and if you need something you cannot find just contact us!
